Paul Spills the CBD: New to CBD

Are you new to CBD? You’ve heard the buzz, and maybe you have friends or family members who swear by it, but you’ve still got questions. You’re not alone! To help you be fully informed about CBD, we’ve put together some questions we get from new customers along with answers from our CBD guru, Paul Harney, to get you started on your most excellent CBD journey. Take it away, Paul!

Q: What exactly is CBD? And if the hemp plant that CBD comes from smells just like marijuana, why doesn’t it create the same “high?”

PH: CBD, or cannabidiol, is an active ingredient in the hemp plant and considered the most established compound derived from the plant. Unlike marijuana, CBD does not cause a "high" by itself. According to a report from the World Health Organization, “CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential in humans…. To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."

People report that CBD helps relieve anxiety and pain, which leads to better sleep. More studies are being conducted with further medical benefits to be added to the list. Scientists are conducting studies on CBD more and more, so we are always eager to hear about the new findings.

Q: What can I expect when I take CBD? How will it make me feel? Will it make me sleepy? Also, is CBD legal/regulated? And how much CBD is safe to use/how often can I use it?

PH: CBD does not get you high. You may feel relaxed, experience less pain, and be more comfortable overall; however, it is not psychoactive like marijuana.

Depending on where you live, CBD is legal. Some states still only consider it legal for medical use, while most states legalized it for both recreational and medical use. Currently, CBD is still considered a supplement, which is not FDA-regulated. The FDA is starting to implement more rules regarding the CBD sales.

CBD is considered safe to consume in adults; however, it can produce side effects in some people. We believe that everyone should find their own path with the strength they choose to use. If you are new to CBD, it’s best to start small and slowly increase your dose up to a level that gives you the desired effect.

Q: Why do CBD products cost so much? And is all CBD that’s sold the same quality?

PH: We grow our own hemp plants here in Millerton, NY, which gives us the ability to bring only the best quality CBD to you. We grow our hemp organically, and our team of farmers continue to look over the plants’ growth from the roots up. That all being said, the process of extracting the CBD oil is time-consuming and has to be timed just right.

As you can imagine, the amount of oil you get from each plant is not huge, yet requires much labor and machinery to complete the process from the hemp plant to the oil… hence the cost of CBD products.

Q: Does CBD have a taste or smell?

PH: To most, it is earthy in smell and taste and can be unflavored or flavored. The unflavored CBD can be slightly bitter, this is from its high concentration. I think of it as what you get from a bite of some good dark chocolate.

Full-spectrum CBD has more of the “marijuana” smell to it due the terpenes, the compounds that make the scent of plants.

Q: Why should I try CBD?

PH: That is a question for each individual and the reason we say, “Find your own path.” We believe that if you do choose to try it or simply wish to find high-quality CBD products, you have landed in the right place. The Hemp Division was created to make finding CBD products easy, affordable, and with sustainable high quality.
